Learning to Live In Your Value
Are you living your life according to your values, or the expectations of others?
Expectations Become Bars
Living according to the rules and expectations of others chains and confines you within a set of behavior parameters that aren’t designed to connect with your divine purpose. And you can feel it. It feels like there’s something more on the other side of those invisible bars. But you can’t see the barriers that you feel. So it’s confusing, and it can create feelings of helplessness. Thoughts that “nothing I can do/say/be matters.” Yet in reality, we’re the creators of these barriers. We’re the ones who stop ourselves.
Release Yourself
Release yourself from this invisible cage: Unchain yourself from the expectations of others. Really easy to write, much harder in practice. The base of the matter is thus: You’re here to live this life for you. This life is for your experiences and your growth and your transcendence. Selfishness for selfishness sake isn’t being suggested. This isn’t the time to say “screw all of you, I’m here for me.” That misses the point. The point is to not live for the validation of others. To not let your personal value be dependent on your perceptions of others’ beliefs.
Of course there’s always people who disapprove, or think that your best path is path Y instead of path X. And these people are very happy, and in some cases believe it to be their responsibility, to tell you so. Yet it’s only opinion, and though opinions may hold value, they don’t define you.
Find Your Value
Your value, your validation, your meaning comes from inside you. It comes from learning your passions, practicing them, and understanding the underlying currents of your happiness. Because once you understand what makes you valid isn’t external, the pain from the external obstacles lessens. And then as you live your life you can look at choices and the situations you’re in and ask yourself:
Ask Yourself These Questions
“Is this in alignment with my passion?”
“Is This in alignment with my meaning?”
“Is this why I’m truly –here-?”
Evaluate Your Situation
And if the answers are yes or variations thereof, congrats! Power through the obstacles!
But if the answers are no or variations thereof, it might be time to take another look at your choices and behaviors, and see where there’s room for shift.
